Youth for Understanding (YFU) is one of the world's oldest and most respected, nonprofit high school exchange student programs.
Students travel to the U.S. from 60+ countries to learn about our culture and share their traditions and customs with us. It’s an enriching experience that creates lifelong connections. They are currently in need of a family to host one of our WHS exchange students for the remainder of the school year. YFU provides each student/family a trained volunteer to support you throughout your exchange year, along with a 24/7 emergency line and four orientations throughout the year so that you can learn how to best support your student. If you are interested in hosting a current exchange student or applying to be a host family for next year, please e-mail Ashley or call at 202-774-5277.

Early/Middle College  Not only can WBSD students earn their high school diploma, but they can also earn an associate degree one year after completing high school. In partnership with the Wayne County Community College District, students may now pursue a tuition-free associate degree while attending high school. Our first cohort of students began taking classes at Wayne County's Taylor campus in September 2017. We are now into our third cohort with over 100 students well on their way to earning an associate degree. For more information on this one-of-a-kind program, visit Early/Middle College.
